Hi, my name is Cass Claude and I am excited about teaching Grade 6 at Cold Lake Middle School this year! I have spent the last nine years teaching Grades 5-8 and look forward to my third year at this amazing facility.

Thursday, May 9th, and Friday May 10th, 2013:
Mr. Claude was away on Thursday, but the substitute teacher assigned Chapter 11, Lesson 3 for homework in math and students watched a video on flight in science class.
Friday's homework: Finish Chapter 11, Lesson 4 "Constructing Triangles". Students will require a ruler and a protractor for this activity. Here is a link to the French version of this lesson.
On Wednesday, students were given field trip forms for swimming and bowling at the end of the year. Swimming will cost $5 / student and Bowling will cost $8 per student. These forms are due by next Wednesday.
This weekend, students should be preparing for their Language Arts Part A P.A.T. which will take place on Wednesday morning (practice story writing and news article writing).
Track and Field will take place on Monday and Wednesday afternoon next week. Students should dress for the events and the weather.

In Science, we have been learning about the control surfaces of fixed-wing aircraft and how they effect the three basic movements of pitch, roll, and yaw.

Finish / Review the Chapter 8 Review and earlier lessons from Chapter 8, in preparation for your test next Tuesday. Understand how to classify and measure angles with a protractor, how to calculate the perimeter of a polygon and the area of a rectangle. Also, understand how to calculate the volume of a rectangular prism and solve problems with volume.

Science: Flight Posters are due at the end our science block on Monday. If you are not almost finished, please work on them during the long weekend. Please refer to poster links from earlier this week and from Friday of last week to help you (i.e. listed under the dates below).
Math: If you have not yet done so, please complete Chapter 8, Lesson 7. The "gist" of this lesson is that the 4 angles on a quadrilateral always equal 360 degrees, so if you know 3 of them, you can find the fourth by adding them together and subtracting the sum from 360 degrees.

Class Pre-Holiday Party
Note to parents: 6C and 6U are both planning to have a "pre-holiday" class party on Thursday, December 20th at the end of the day (i.e. during block 6 from 2:30 -3:25p.m.). I encourage students in my homeroom to bring in treats / drinks etc. if it is something that they would like to do.
Next Friday, our school is planning on providing a Turkey Lunch for all students and to attend a movie in the afternoon at Grand Square Cinema. Permission Forms for the movie must go home today.
Thursday, December 13th, 2012:
Today students wrote their Chapter 6 (Ratios and %) tests in math class. Tomorrow we will start talking about proper and improper fractions.
Also tomorrow, students will get the chance to try out the sun dials we have created in class (weather permitting) and write a quiz about sun dials, sunlight and shadows.

Mr. C. will be away tomorrow (Wednesday) at teacher meetings. Students will receive the second of two pre-tests to help them prepare for the math test on Thursday. Students should review chapter 6 in their textbooks and some of the links below to help them further.
All students participating in the Christmas concert tomorrow should arrive by 6:45 p.m.. Students in the school band need to arrive by 6:30 p.m..

Students are learning how to classify trees by looking at their leaves and are starting a new unit on number relationships in math. Also, students in my homeroom each received a free piece of pizza for showing their school spirit last week.

Students in my math classes have been exploring the value of one billion (which as it turns out is really, really big). In Science, students have started to think about the importance of Trees and Forests.
No homework has yet been assigned in either of these classes.
All students will be treated to a pancake breakfast tomorrow morning, starting at 8:15 a.m.. As students arrive at school thereafter, they will be served pancakes in our hive. Bring your appetites!
Tomorrow is also Anti-Bullying Day: Students are encouraged to wear pink in order to show zero tolerance for bullying at our school.
